Port Elizabeth police are warning petrol station owners and petrol attendants to be on the lookout for a gold-coloured VW Jetta, saying that the driver of the vehicle refuels without paying.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu, two cases have been reported at the Humewood police station.

“In the first case, on 1 March at about 11:49, the driver filled petrol for the amount of R50,33 at the Engen garage in Govan Mbeki Avenue. He drove off without paying.

“The second case was reported when on 5 March at about 06:00. The driver allegedly filled R250 petrol at the Caltex garage in Rink Street.”

Naidu says the vehicle is fitted with false plates.

The registration numbers JJP793EC and JJP795EC have been used in the two cases reported to police.

“Should this vehicle be spotted any garages or elsewhere or if anyone may know the owner of this vehicle, Detective Constable Marsha Green should be contacted on 083 453 5831 or 041 504 5106, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or their nearest police station. All information is confidential and callers have the right to remain anonymous.”
